This career requires a degree of strength to assist the physical therapists in moving, and preparing patients for physical therapy exercises. The main job description can vary depending on the the type of location one chooses to work within the industry.

It takes 2 years to complete an associate degree at physical therapy assistant schools in New York State. New York has colleges spread throughout the state. All accredited programs will offer a clinical placement as part of the program. This clinical placement will be a minimum of 16 weeks, and will allow students to gain hands on experience working with patients.

It is wise to budget roughly $12 000 to $13 000 for tuition and expenses for the entire program. Keep in mind that there is a large clinical portion to this program, some of which will be part time (8-16 hours per week) throughout the program, but more often than not it is an entire semester of full time hands on clinical training. It is best to ask the college of your choice what the options for clinical placement if your schedule or part time job may be affected by this. Upon completion of this associate degree, the next step will be to study and write the state license exam with the New York Physical Therapy Board. Once this is completed you are a licensed physical therapy assistant, whom command roughly a $45 000 per year salary on average in the state of New York.
